Moving to a new apartment, changing your provider, or simply updating your router - and your smart speaker with Alice Suddenly loses internet connection. The voice assistant stops responding to commands, music doesn't play, and your smart home system refuses to work. Sound familiar? Don't panic: connecting Alice to a new Wi-Fi network takes no more than 5-10 minutes if you know the ropes.
In this article we will look at all current connection methods (via app) Yandex, voice commands, and alternative methods), we'll explain why Alice might not see a new network and provide a checklist for diagnosing problems. We'll also reveal hidden 5 GHz priority connection feature, which is not written about in the official documentation.
Important: the instructions are suitable for all devices with Alice - from Yandex Stations (including models Mini, Lite, Max) to Yandex Module and TVs with a built-in assistant. If your speaker was released before 2020, some menu items may differ—we'll let you know.
1. Preparation: What you need to do BEFORE connecting Alice to Wi-Fi
Before you rush to reconnect your device, check 4 key points, which influence the success of the process. Neglecting them is the cause of 70% of setup errors.
- 📶 The router is turned on and distributing the network. Make sure the Wi-Fi indicator on it is green/blue (not red!). If you are using
guest networkAlice won't see it - the main one is needed. - 🔒 Wi-Fi password at handAlice doesn't support connecting via WPS (the button on the router), so you'll need to enter the password manually. If you've forgotten it, look for it on the router's sticker or in your provider's account.
- 📱 The Yandex app has been updated.Go to .
App Store/Google Play, find Yandex and check for updates. Older versions may not display new networks. - 🔌 The speaker is connected to power supply.. Even if the indicator is on, when the battery charge is low (relevant for Yandex Stations Mini) the connection may be interrupted.
⚠️ Attention: If your router uses hidden Wi-Fi network (SSID broadcast is disabled), Alice won't detect it. Temporarily enable network visibility in the router settings (section Wireless → SSID Broadcast).
It is also worth considering that Alice doesn't work with networks:
- 🚫 C
spaces or Cyrillicin the name (SSID). Rename the network to Latin characters. - 🚫 With security type
WEPorEnterprise(onlyWPA2-PSK/WPA3). - 🚫 C
MAC filtering, if the speaker's MAC address is not added to the whitelist.
2. Method 1: Connecting via the Yandex app (the most reliable)
This is the official method, which works 95% of the time. The instructions apply to the app version. Yandex 23.4+ (check in phone settings).
- Open the app Yandex on your smartphone and go to the section
Devices(column icon in the bottom menu). - Choose your column from the list. If it's not there, click
Add a deviceand follow the prompts. - Tap the settings gear (⚙️) next to the device name, then select
Wi-Fi. - Click "Change Network" and wait until the speaker enters setup mode (flashing orange LED).
- Select a new network from the list, enter the password and confirm. If the network is not in the list, click
RefreshorAnother network.
Once successfully connected, the speaker will beep and a notification will appear in the app. If the process is stuck at the "Connecting..." step:
- 🔄 Restart the speaker (press and hold the power button for 10 seconds).
- 📵 Turn off your mobile internet on the phone - sometimes it interferes with the connection.
- 🔌 Change the Wi-Fi channel in the router settings
1–11(if it's worth it)12–14orDF).
The phone and speaker are on the same Wi-Fi network (or the speaker is in setup mode)
The Yandex app has been updated to the latest version.
The Wi-Fi password has been copied to the clipboard.
The router is not overloaded (less than 10 connected devices)-->
3. Method 2: Voice connection (if the app doesn't work)
If you don't have access to the app (for example, you lost your phone) or it doesn't see the speaker, you can try connecting by voice. This method only works for devices with Yandex Alice version 1.15+ (check in the speaker settings).
The algorithm is simple:
- Tell:
"Alice, connect to Wi-Fi.". - The speaker will enter setup mode (flashing orange light) and will say:
"Ready to connect. Open your phone's Wi-Fi settings.". - Connect to the network on your phone
Yandex_XXXX(where XXXX is your column's unique code). No password is required. - Return to Alice and say:
"Connect to [your Wi-Fi name]", then dictate the password letter by letter (for example,"password: big-cat-runs").
If Alice does not respond to the command:
- 🔊 Check your microphone: Tell
"Alice, hello."- If there is no response, clean the microphone holes from dust. - 📴 Turn off Bluetooth on the phone - it can block voice input.
- 🔤 Speak clearlyAlice has trouble recognizing passwords with hyphens and numbers. It's better to dictate them character by character:
"password: a-b-c-1-2-3".
⚠️ Note: Some models Yandex Stations (released before 2021) do not support voice connection to networks with WPA3In this case, use method 1 or 3.
What should I do if Alice asks for a password, but the network is open?
If your Wi-Fi network is open but Alice still asks for it, say: "The password is empty" or "No password"If this doesn't help, temporarily set a simple password (for example, 12345678), connect the speaker, then remove the password back.
4. Method 3: Alternative methods (if nothing works)
If the first two methods don't work, try one of these options. They require additional steps, but they often save the day in difficult cases.
4.1. Resetting the speaker to factory settings
This is an extreme measure that erases all settings, including linked accounts. Use it if:
- 🔄 The speaker is frozen at the connection stage.
- 🚫 Doesn't respond to voice commands or the app.
- ⚠️ Shows an error
"Unable to connect"without explanation.
Reset instructions:
- Press and hold the button
reset(usually located on the rear panel next to the power connector) during 15 seconds, until the red indicator flashes. - Release the button - the speaker will reboot and return to factory settings (orange flashing light).
- Reconnect via the app Yandex (method 1).
4.2. Connecting via an Ethernet adapter (for speakers with a LAN port)
If yours Yandex Station Max or Yandex Module supports wired connection, can be used temporarily Ethernet To set up Wi-Fi:
- Connect the speaker to the router with a cable
LAN. - In the appendix Yandex Go to your device settings and select
Wi-Fi. - Follow the instructions and the speaker will automatically detect available networks.
4.3 Using a second phone as a bridge
If your primary phone doesn't see the speaker, but you have a second smartphone:
- On the second phone, turn on
Wi-Fi hotspot(the name of the network is not important). - Connect the speaker to this network via the app Yandex.
- After successful connection, say:
"Alice, connect to [your primary network name]".
5. Table: Common errors and their solutions
| Error | Possible cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
"Unable to connect to the network" |
Incorrect password or security type WPA3 (for old speakers) |
Check the password. If the router supports it WPA2, switch to it |
| The speaker does not respond to voice commands | The microphone is muted or the speaker is in mute mode Do not disturb |
Press the microphone button on the speaker (it should be green). Say: "Alice, come out of silence mode." |
| The application does not see the column. | The speaker is connected to a different network or turned off. | Restart the speaker, make sure that the phone and the speaker are on the same network |
"The signal is too weak" |
The router is far away or is operating at a frequency 5 GHz (old speakers only support 2.4 GHz) |
Move the speaker closer to the router or turn it on 2.4 GHz in the router settings |
| The speaker connects, but the internet doesn't work. | The router is blocking access to Yandex servers or there is no internet access. | Restart your router. Check if the internet works on other devices. |
⚠️ Attention: If your router uses dual authorization (for example, first connecting to the network, then entering the login/password on the provider's page), Alice will not be able to connect. In this case, configure the router for automatic authorization or use another method.
6. How to connect Alice to 5 GHz: a hidden function
Officially Yandex Stations (except Max And Module 2.0) support only 2.4 GHzHowever, there is a workaround to connect to 5 GHz, which works on firmware versions 2.12+. Here's how to do it:
- In the router settings turn on both ranges (
2.4 GHzAnd5 GHz) With the same network name (SSID) and password. - Connect the speaker to the network via the app Yandex (she will automatically select
2.4 GHz). - In the router settings turn it off
2.4 GHz, leaving only5 GHz. - Restart the speaker (turn off the power for 30 seconds). When you turn it on, it will connect to
5 GHz.
⚠️ Important:
- After this column won't be able to switch back to 2.4 GHz, if the 5 GHz signal weakens.
- Some functions (eg.
Bluetooth) may work unstably. - If the router supports
Smart Connect(automatic switching between ranges), this method will not work.
7. Frequently asked questions and answers
Is it possible to connect Alice to Wi-Fi without the Yandex app?
Yes, but with limitations. You can use voice method (method 2) or router web interface (if the column supports WPS, but this is rare). Also, some models allow you to connect via Bluetooth, but this is a temporary solution - Wi-Fi is required for full functionality.
Why does Alice connect to Wi-Fi, but the internet doesn't work?
There are several reasons:
- 🔌 The router is not connected to the Internet. (check your provider's cable).
- 🔒 DNS blockingSome providers block Yandex servers. Try changing the DNS in your router settings to
8.8.8.8(Google) or1.1.1.1(Cloudflare). - 📵 MAC address restriction: Add the speaker's MAC address (indicated on the sticker) to the list of allowed devices in the router.
How do I find out which network Alice is connected to?
Ask Alice: "Which Wi-Fi network are you connected to?"It will announce the network name (SSID). This information can also be viewed in the app. Yandex in the device settings.
Is it possible to connect Alice to public Wi-Fi (in a cafe, hotel)?
Technically yes, but with some caveats:
- ✅ Works if the network open or with a simple password.
- ❌ Doesn't work if required authorization via browser (enter login/password on the page).
- ⚠️ Often used in hotels portal authorization (entering the room number), which Alice cannot handle.
For temporary connection you can use modem mode on the phone (distribute Wi-Fi from the phone to the speaker).
How do I reset Wi-Fi settings on Alice without resetting the entire device?
Unfortunately, in most models There is no separate Wi-Fi reset buttonYou'll have to do a hard reset (method 4.1) or connect through the app and manually select a new network. The exception is Yandex Station Max: she has an option in the settings Forget the Network.
8. Additional tips for stable operation
To prevent Alice from losing your Wi-Fi connection in the future, follow these recommendations:
- 📶 Place the router and speaker at a distance of no more than 10 metersWalls and furniture weaken the signal.
- 🔄 Set up automatic firmware updates in the app Yandex (chapter
About the device). - 🔌 Use a surge protector for the speaker - voltage surges can disrupt the settings.
- 📵 Disable energy saving on your router (if there is such an option) - it can break the connection.
If Alice frequently disconnects from Wi-Fi:
- Check it out Wi-Fi channel in the router settings. Channels
12–14AndDFmay conflict with the column. - Install fixed IP address for the column in the router's DHCP settings.
- Update your router firmware (especially important for TP-Link And ASUS).
⚠️ Warning: If you use Mesh system (several routers in one network), Alice can connect to the weakest node. In the Mesh settings, mark the main router as Priority.
