Needing to connect a new device to a wireless network but losing or forgetting the password is one of the most common problems with home internet use. Users often search for this information in moments of urgent need, such as sending a document or streaming a video on a TV. In most cases, the answer lies within the physical casing of the equipment provided by the provider.
Company Rostelecom uses various router models from manufacturers such as Sagemcom, ZTE, Eltex And HuaweiRegardless of the brand, the principle of placing the factory data remains the same: the information sticker is located on the bottom or back panel of the case. This is where the unique factory code (PIN or Password), which is used for initial authorization in the local network.
However, there are cases where the sticker has worn off, been removed by the previous owner, or the router has been reconfigured and the password changed manually. In these situations, the default code on the sticker no longer works, requiring alternative methods to restore access. Below, we'll detail all possible solutions to this problem, from a visual inspection of the device to in-depth web interface settings.
Finding factory data on the housing sticker
The fastest and most reliable way to find the information you need is to physically inspect your router. Nearly all models provided by your ISP have a special information sticker on the bottom. It can be white, silver, or black and contains barcodes, serial numbers, and access details. You'll need to turn the device over to read the fine print.
On this label, you're interested in the fields that may have different names depending on the equipment manufacturer. Look for the labels WPA Key, Wireless Password, WLAN Key or simply Password. It is usually indicated nearby. SSID (network name), which may also be needed to identify the correct connection among neighboring networks. The factory password often consists of a random string of letters and numbers, so it's important not to confuse the letter "O" with the number "0."
If the sticker is in good condition, simply enter the specified characters into the connection field on your smartphone or laptop. Please note the case sensitivity: the system distinguishes between uppercase and lowercase characters. The input must be precise, with no extra spaces at the beginning or end of the line. This is the standard procedure for initial setup of any device. Wi-Fi router.
⚠️ Attention: If the sticker on the device is severely damaged, faded, or missing, do not attempt to guess the password. Multiple unsuccessful connection attempts may temporarily block your device's network adapter.
It's important to understand that this method only works if the router settings haven't been changed since installation by a technician or you personally. If you or a family member has previously changed the default security settings, the code on the sticker will no longer be valid. In this case, you'll need to use the other methods described below.
Login to the router's web interface to view settings
If a visual inspection is inconclusive or the password has been changed, the next step is to access the device's software. To do this, log in to your router's account via a web browser. You'll need to connect your computer or phone to the router using any available method: via a LAN cable or via Wi-Fi (if the device is already connected to the network but you don't know the password for new devices).
Open any browser (Chrome, Opera, Safari) and enter the device's IP address in the address bar. For equipment Rostelecom addresses are most commonly used 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1 or domain 192.168.100.1. The exact address can also be indicated on the same sticker that we looked at earlier, in the field IP Address or Default AccessAfter entering the address, press Enter.
The system will request authorization. Here again, the data from the sticker may be useful: login and password for entering the interface (often this is admin/admin or admin (and a unique code). If the default data doesn't work, it may have been modified. Successfully logging into the control panel will grant access to all network settings, including the wireless section.
After authorization, the interface may look different depending on the model (Sagemcom, ZTE, Eltek). You need to find the section related to wireless networking. Look for tabs with the following names: WLAN, Wi-Fi, Wireless network or NetworkThere will be a subsection within this section. Security (Security) or WPA/WAPI SettingsRight there in the field Pre-Shared Key or Password The current access key is displayed.
In some modern firmware, the password is hidden behind asterisks. In this case, there may be a "Show" button (an eye) or a "Show characters" checkbox next to the input field. If this option isn't available, you can simply enter the new password in this field and save the settings. After rebooting the router, all devices will be disconnected, and you'll need to enter the new code.
| Router model | Entrance address | Standard login | Where to find the Wi-Fi password |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sagemcom Fast 2370 | 192.168.1.1 | admin | WLAN -> Basic -> Pre-Shared Key |
| ZTE ZXHN H108N | 192.168.1.1 | admin | Network -> WLAN -> Security |
| Eltex NTU-RW-Box | 192.168.1.1 | admin | Wi-Fi -> Security Settings |
| Huawei HG8245H | 192.168.100.1 | root/admin | WLAN -> WLAN Security |
Using the subscriber's personal account
Modern providers are striving to digitalize their services, and Rostelecom is no exception. If you have internet access (for example, through your operator's mobile app or another device), you can try searching for data in your subscriber account. This method is convenient because it doesn't require physical access to the router, even if it's mounted high or located far away.
Go to the provider's official website or open the "My Rostelecom" app. After logging in using your contract number or phone number, go to the section for your equipment. Some tariff plans and equipment types (especially in the RT (and new models with cloud management) the function of viewing or changing the Wi-Fi password directly from the Personal Account interface is available.
Find the "Hardware" or "My Devices" section. If your model supports remote configuration management, the network name and password change option will be displayed there. When you change the password through your Personal Account, the new code will be automatically applied to the router. This is especially useful if you want to set a complex, difficult-to-remember password and save it in your history or notes.
⚠️ Attention: Wi-Fi management via the personal account is not available for all router models. Older devices operating in bridge mode or not supporting remote management protocols (TR-069) will not allow you to change settings via the website.
Additionally, in your personal account, you can often find a contract or equipment acceptance certificate, where the technician may have entered the network data by hand. Check the "Documents" or "Call History" section; technical support may have already provided you with this information in a conversation.
What should I do if my Personal Account says "Control unavailable"?
This means your router doesn't support cloud management or the connection to it has been lost. Try rebooting the device and waiting 10-15 minutes. If the status doesn't change, try logging in through your browser using your IP address.
Viewing a saved password on a Windows computer
If a laptop or computer running an operating system is already connected to the Wi-Fi network Windows, the network password is saved in the system's memory. You don't need to know it to log in, as the connection is automatic, but you can easily view it in the settings. This is one of the easiest methods, requiring no input.
